Pixie gets her moves on

Since installing our sculpting robot on Fat Tuesday 2016, our sculpting robot ‘Pixie’ has been drawing a lot of attention. To name a few, we had journalists from Biz New Orleans, Discovery Channel and Fox 8 Now come visit Kern Studios to have a look at Pixie’s incredible capabilities.

And for good reason! With 6-Axis on the robot arm itself, 1-Axis from the lineal rail the robot moves along and 1 Axis from the free-standing high-capacity rotary table, Pixie is capable to do 8-Axis-simultaneous motions, enabling her to make some seriously interesting moves! Check out this video to see a few: Digital-Fabrication-at-Kern-Studios

By the way, did you know Pixie is a true world citizen? The robot itself originates from Germany. But the rail it moves on, is build right here in the US. The spindle -the part that does the sculpting and cutting- is Italian, whereas the computer hardware comes from Japan. Luckily for us, the computer software is from the UK. In English…
